Cultural Carnival Showcases Campus Diversity

Many people add their individual brushstrokes to the canvas at last year's Cultural Carnival.

ALBANY, N.Y (April 6, 2016) – In recognition of its commitment to highlight diversity and promote inclusion, the University at Albany will host its Cultural Carnival on Sunday, April 17, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Entry Plaza. The annual event is sponsored by the Student Association’s Office of Intercultural Affairs.

An interactive celebration that has taken place at UAlbany for more than 20 years, the Cultural Carnival is designed to promote a greater understanding of, and appreciation for, different cultures through food, music, games, dance and many other forms of entertainment.

The free carnival is organized by a wide variety of student organizations, drawing from international, cultural, gender and sexuality, and faith-based student groups.

Organizations that will be tabling at the carnival include:

  • African Student Association (ASA)
  • Albany State Indian Alliance (ASIA)
  • Albany State University Black Alliance (ASUBA)
  • Chinese Student Association (CSA)
  • Fuerza Latina
  • Haitian Student Society (HSA)
  • Hellenic Society
  • Jamaican Student Association (JAMSA)
  • Korean Student Association (KSA)
  • LIGA Filipina (LIGA)
  • Multicultural Greek and Fraternal Council (MGFC)

Director of the Office of Intercultural Student Engagement Ekow King anticipates that those attending the carnival will have an enjoyable and informative experience.
