Fire in Oneida Hall
Statement from the University at Albany
At 12:45 a.m. 2/23/16 University Police responded to a report of a fire in Oneida Hall on Indian Quad on the Main Campus. On arrival there was an active fire on the third floor of the building contained to one room. Fire department personnel responded and put the fire out by 1:10 a.m.
The building houses approximately 120 students. All were evacuated from the residence hall. One student reported minor injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment.
The fire caused the activation of the building’s sprinkler system. The building is not available for re-occupation at this time. Residential Life staff is arranging living accommodations for displaced students. Students displaced by the fire will also be given support and assistance as necessary.
UPD is working with fire department personnel to determine the cause of the fire.
