Sodexo Gift Match Spurs Today’s ‘Giving Tuesday’

750 or more donors to Giving Tuesday will activate a $75,000 matching gift to the campaign from Sodexo.

ALBANY, N.Y. (December 1, 2015) — With a matching gift challenge of $75,000 from Sodexo as a big incentive, the campus community can make today a very “Giving Tuesday” by way of our donations through 11:59 tonight. Sodexo’s give kicks in when we meet the University at Albany Foundation’s participation goal of 750 donors.

The 24-hour giving challenge allows donors to give online at albany.edu/give or by phone at 1-800-577-7869. Funds will support the Foundation’s continuing efforts to benefit UAlbany programs and activities. Various matching gifts, in addition to Sodexo’s, have been offered.

A student donation table will be located in the Uptown Campus Lecture Center area today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The challenge is being updated live through Twitter, using #UAlbanyGivingTuesday.

The University’s inaugural Giving Tuesday in 2014 raised more than $210,000 in donations from past and present UAlbany community members. In total, 670 donors participated, with matching gifts contributing another $100,000 by the challenge’s completion.

“Participating in Giving Tuesday helps us build a culture of philanthropy within the UAlbany community,” said Ed McGlone, assistant director of Annual Giving for the UAlbany Fund. “It provides an opportunity for alumni, parents, students, friends and other members of the University community to build a better UAlbany.”

UAlbany’s event is part of a nationally recognized campaign designed to highlight the benefits of charity. It occurs annually on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. In 2014, Giving Tuesday raised an estimated $45.7 million both on and offline for non-profits. Early projections expect those numbers to increase this year.
