"'On the Way to Snoul': Rubber and Race in Rural Colonial Cambodia, 1920s-1954" "The Scientist, the Governor, and the Planter: The Political Economy of Agricultural Knowledge in Indochina During the Creation of a ‘Science of Rubber’, 1900-1940"
Mitch Aso focuses on the intersections of environmental history with medicine, science, technology, and politics in Southeast Asia. He is currently working on a book manuscript that examines agricultural science, colonial medicine, and Vietnamese nationalism on the rubber plantations of French Indochina from 1890 to 1954. I am currently working on a book manuscript that explores the imbricated histories of plants and humans in Vietnam during the twentieth century.
