Jeannette Sutton, associate professor in the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, testified before the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce on strategies to strengthen public safety communications nationwide. Watch the hearing.

Jorge Gonzalez-Cruz and F.B. Oppong of the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center have published a study in the journal Geophysical Research Letters that shows extreme heatwaves in the Caribbean have become much more frequent, prolonged and intense over the last five decades. The findings will provide valuable insight to help improve preparations for future extreme heat events in the region.

Marlene Belfort received the Association for Women in Science’s Zenith Award, presented in recognition of Belfort’s lifetime of innovative scientific achievements and her deep commitment to expanding workplace diversity and building programs to support young researchers.
