John W. Hicks, BS, MPA
He is currently the Interim Director of the Northeast Regional Forensics Institute (NERFI) at the University at Albany, State University of New York providing education in forensics biology, chemistry, and computer science. Before his position at NERFI, he was the Director of the Office of Forensic Services at the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. His previous appointments include Deputy Director of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, and Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Laboratory in Washington, DC. He is a past member of the National DNA Advisory Board and the New York State Commission on Forensic Science. He is a member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and an emeritus member of the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors. John received his B.S. in Chemistry from Arkansas State University and his M.P.A. (Public Administration) from the University of Southern California.
Currently, the NERFI is providing intense “DNA Academies” for newly hired DNA scientists. The Institute also sponsors specialized technical training for forensic laboratory personnel.
