DNA Academy Coursework: An Overview

DNA Academy Student working at a Computer

DNA Academy offers customized curricula for forensic laboratories and their employees. We adapt our coursework to suit the needs of each laboratory and agency, adjusting for differences in state laws and SOPs (standard operating procedures).

Academy students choose to do their lab work in one of three fields of expertise:

  • DNA Casework
  • Serology
  • DNA Data Bank

Special Benefits Of The DNA Academy

  • The Academy scans news sources on a weekly basis to ensure that we are up-to-date on developments and trends affecting the forensics community.
  • Weekly student-faculty assessment meetings monitor student performance and assure maximum retention of course materials.
  • Each course concludes with a Moot Court, for which the New York Prosecutors Training Institute provides instruction, taping, and critique. This is a capstone event for the Academy; here students learn how to translate highly technical scientific concepts into language that members of the court can understand.

Typical 12-Week Schedule of Coursework
