The quality of DNA Academy comes from its customized
curriculum for forensic laboratories. A typical
example of a curriculum designed to fit the needs of
a laboratory is as follows:
The program starts with Distance
Education Training's first module. This module
is an introductory to forensic laboratory work. Technical
Literature, Quality Assurance
and Ethnics Review and Issues are taught
in this module.
The second and third modules are On
Site Training at the UAlbany DNA laboratory.
Students learn all necessary forensic DNA work
including but not limited to extraction, quantification,
PCR, STR-CE, Data Analysis, Data Interpretation, Statistics,
Reporting, Technical Review, Moot Court. This module
gives hands on experience which will be critical for
later bench work analyses.
The program closes with a second Distance
Education Training. Advanced Analysis and Interpretation,
Report Writing, Technical and Administrative Review
and CODIS/NDIS are taught
in this module.
At the end of this program, students
will only need to be competency tested in their home
laboratory.
