Nanoscale Science

The University at Albany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering has evolved into an internationally recognized multiplex for research and education in nanoscale science, nanoscale engineering, nanoscale bioscience and nanoeconomics due to its eminently successful model for collaboration between industry, government, and academia. From an initial enrollment of 10 graduate students in Nanosciences and Nanoengineering degree programs in the inaugural Fall 2004 semester, CNSE currently enrolls over 140 graduate students. Unencumbered by boundaries between traditional disciplines, CNSE students take part in a groundbreaking inter-disciplinary course of study designed to address the needs and challenges of nanoscale research, rather than simply putting nano-labels on established science. The result is a unique, cross-cutting curriculum that establishes the fundamental concepts necessary for understanding nanoscale phenomena, and also offers the opportunity to delve more deeply into a wide variety of advanced topics needed to support cutting-edge research.
