RECOGNITION CEREMONY
On Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 5:30 p.m., the Departments of Art, Classics, Music, and Theatre hosted a Recognition Ceremony for their majors where each graduate was individually recognized for his/her achievement.
Graduates and faculty marched into the Main Theatre of the Performing Arts Center under the leadership of Faculty Marshal, Professor Andi Lyons (Theatre). Professor Albin Zak, Music Department Chair, welcomed the graduates, their families and friends. Dr. Zak was joined onstage by Professor Ken Goldstein (Theatre), Professor Daniel Goodwin (Art), Professor Stuart Swiny (Classics), and a number of faculty members.
Music presentations followed as graduating senior and saxophonist Kevin Frison played Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring by Johann Sebastian Bach. Graduating senior Arla Wilding sang Sweet Chance, That Led My Steps Abroad by Michael Head and I Shall Not Live in Vain by Jake Heggie. Both performers were accompanied by Professor Duncan Cumming on piano.
Dr. Zak recognized this year's recipients of the Music Department's awards and scholarships. Professor Paul Ricciardi (Theatre) announced the graduates' names as they were presented with their certificates. And Arla Wilding and Professor Duncan Cumming took the stage once again to lead the audience in the singing of the Alma Mater (see photo above).
After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Senior Art Exhibition Opening in the Fine Arts Building.
