RECOGNITION CEREMONY
On Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 5:30 p.m., the Departments of Art, Classics, Music, and Theatre hosted a Recognition Ceremony for their majors where each graduate was individually recognized for his/her achievement.
Graduates and faculty marched into the Main Theatre of the Performing Arts Center under the leadership of Faculty Marshal, Professor Andi Lyons (Theatre). Music Department Chair, Professor Albin Zak welcomed the graduates, their families and friends. Dr. Zak was joined onstage by Professor Ken Goldstein (Theatre), Professor Daniel Goodwin (Art), Professor John Overbeck (Classics), and a number of faculty members.
Music presentations followed as graduating senior Krista Wareing played the dramatic Rhapsody in G minor, Op. 79, no. 2 by Johannes Brahms. And Michael Stanziani was impressive in his singing of Whither Must I Wander? by Ralph Vaughn Williams. Michael was sensitively accompanied by Professor Victoria von Arx on piano.
Dr. Zak recognized this year's recipients of the Music Department's awards and scholarships. Professor Paul Ricciardi (Theatre) announced the graduates' names as they were presented with their certificates. And Michael Stanziani and Professor Victoria von Arx took the stage once again to lead the audience in the singing of the Alma Mater (see photo below).
After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Senior Art Exhibition Opening in the Fine Arts Building.
