Graduating seniors Pamela Crockett (accompanist) and Erin Hodgdon (vocalist) lead all in the singing of the Alma Mater.
RECOGNITION CEREMONY
On Saturday, May 19, 2007, at 5:30 p.m., the Departments of Art, Classics, Music, and Theatre hosted a Recognition Ceremony for their majors where each graduate was individually recognized for his/her achievement.
Graduates and faculty marched into the Main Theatre of the Performing Arts Center under the leadership of Faculty Marshal, Professor Andi Lyons (Theatre). Music Department Chair, Professor Albin Zak welcomed the graduates, their families and friends. Dr. Zak was joined onstage by Professor JoAnne Carson (Art), Professor J. Kevin Doolen (Theatre), and a large number of faculty members.
Music presentations followed as graduating seniors Ashley Simms (vocalist) and Pamela Crockett (accompanist, see picture below) gave moving renditions of "Litany" by John Musto and "Carolina Cabin" by Jean Berger. Next, Pam displayed her solo talents in "Sonata in A Major, Opus 101, Allegretto Ma Non Troppo" by Ludwig van Beethoven. Vocalist Erin Hodgdon joined Pam onstage for a very musical performance of Giacomo Puccini's "O Mio Babbino Caro" from the opera "Gianni Schicchi." And to close, Erin and Pam sang the duet "Defying Gravity" by Stephen Schwartz from his musical "Wicked."
Dr. Zak recognized this year's recipients of the Music Department's awards and scholarships. Professor Paul Ricciardi (Theatre) presented the graduates with their certificates. And Erin Hodgdon and Pamela Crockett took the stage once again to lead the audience in the singing of the Alma Mater.
After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Senior Art Exhibition Opening in the Fine Arts Building.
