Popular Music Studies

The arrival of Department Chair Albin Zak, a scholar in the history of rock music and other areas, has spurred the development of new courses in popular music. Fall 2009 courses include Hip Hop Music and Culture, Modern Jazz: Bebop to Free Jazz and Beyond, Rock Music in Historical Perspective, and Songwriters and Songwriting. Past courses have included the Art of Record Production, Jazz: America's Music, Jazz Fusion: History and Repertory, and Music Video. Look for new additions in future semesters.
