Welcome to Music Studies and Performance at the University at Albany! We provide students with a variety of specialized B.A. programs which include Music, Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, Conducting, Musicology, and Theory. Our programs offer not only a high level of instruction, but a unique degree of faculty attention and guidance. We also offer a music minor.

PEP BAND AT NCAA TOURNAMENT GAMES

Prof. Kevin Champagne and the UAlbany Pep Band were part of the excitement as they performed for basketball fans at the women's NCAA tournament games. Recently, Prof. Champagne was kind enough to take some time out of his busy schedule to share some thoughts about the Pep Band's participation in March Madness:

"The Pep Band was lucky enough to be traveling again this year with the women's basketball team as they made it to the NCAA tournament for the fifth straight time. Thanks to the success of both the men's and women's teams, the band has previously traveled to Philadelphia, Ohio, Delaware, Texas, Florida, and Louisiana for the NCAA tournament. This year was slightly different for two reasons; our trip was not an overnight trip because it was in Syracuse, and more importantly, the women won their first NCAA tournament game!" UALBANY'S FESTIVAL OF CONTEMPOARY MUSIC

Percussion EnsembleUAlbany’s recent annual Festival of Contemporary Music at the PAC featured the University Percussion Ensemble and the Youth Percussion Ensembles. As part of the program, UAlbany’s Department of Music and Theatre hosted young composer Brandon Zhou, a senior at Bethlehem Central High School. (Read more...)



BRAZILIAN CONDUCTOR ISAAC CHUEKE TALKS CULTURE AND MUSIC

Isaac Chueke, professional Brazilian conductor, came to the University at Albany on Wednesday, Feb. 10 to host a talk about the history and importance of Brazilian music and culture. Chueke, who trained in music in four countries, said he “symbolically has a music degree in four countries,” though he got his doctorate of music in Paris. (Read more...)


MY COOL TOOLS: BAND DIRECTOR KEVIN CHAMPAGNE

Kevin Champagne (UAlbany Band Director) is a member of the Lansingburgh Teachers Association and band director at Lansingburgh High School and Knickerbacker Middle School in Rensselaer County. "Studying music, particularly playing an instrument, is one of the very few things that touches on all of the domains: mental, physical and emotional," he says. "Lots of studies connect music study with math skills and reading skills." (Read more...)
