Welcome to Music Studies and Performance at the University at Albany! We provide students with a variety of specialized B.A. programs which include Music, Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, Conducting, Musicology, and Theory. Our programs offer not only a high level of instruction, but a unique degree of faculty attention and guidance. We also offer a music minor.

UALBANY ENSEMBLES IN CONCERT

The University Chamber Singers will be in concert along with the University-Community Symphony Orchestra and Chorale:

Saturday, April 25 at 3pm
Trinity Methodist Church
235 Lark Street, Albany

FREE admission

This select group of dedicated students performs a repertory that spans the globe as well as a wide range of compositional styles and musical periods. This concert will feature Mozart's Coronation Mass and other selections.


PEP BAND AT NCAA TOURNAMENT GAMES

Prof. Kevin Champagne and the UAlbany Pep Band were part of the excitement as they played for basketball fans at both the men's and women's tournament games. Prof. Champagne has been leading the Pep Band as well as our University-Community Symphonic Band for over ten years now. And in the fall of 2013, he began leading our new Marching Great Danes Band. NEW MUSIC AND CULTURE SYMPOSIUM on January 29-31, 2015

Organized by UAlbany faculty member Max Lifchitz, this SUNY-wide conference includes public concerts, lecture/recitals, panel discussions and master classes highlighting the artistic accomplishments of composers affiliated with the SUNY system. (Read more...)

NANCY NEWMAN LECTURE AT THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS

On April 22, 2014, our Chair, Professor Nancy Newman presented an American Musicological Society lecture, "A Program Not Greatly to Their Credit": Finding New Perspectives on the Germania Musical Society through the American Memory Sheet Music Collection. THE PASSING OF PROFESSOR DR. DAVID GRIGGS-JANOWER

In the words of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Susan D. Phillips:

"I am deeply saddened to report the passing of Dr. David Janower, professor in the Department of Music. David was a true ambassador of the University at Albany, both in his 30 years of teaching as well as his directorship of the University Chamber Singers and University-Community Chorale."
