Hardware

The core of each workstation is a Macintosh G4 computer, clocking around 1 gig, and loaded with OS 10.2. The Workstations are also equipped with a Digidesign MBox for audio I/O, a Roland XP-10 MIDI compatible keyboard, MIDI interface, audio mixer and a cassette tape deck for digitizing sounds recorded in the field. Students may sign out high quality Marantz mono portable tape recorders for their work.

The instructor work station also has a master mixer, a record player, DAT recorder, CD player, most of which may be patched to other workstations, as well as a power amp that supports the main sound system.

The Electronic Music Studio also has available a mobile computer music workstation with an 8-in /8-out MOTU 2408 sound card, MIDI interface, MIDI keyboard and mixer.

Below are various images of the Arts Computer Teaching Lab. Click on a particular piece of equipment within the larger images, and you can view detailed information about each componant (on each manufacturer's website). Note that the MBox is not depicted here. See the advanced lab description for information about that device. Note that the computers have been upgraded since this image was taken.

The advance Electronic Music Studio has a more complete setup than the work stations in the main studio. There is a state of the art Macintosh dual processor 1.2GHz G4 computer running OS 10.2, with a DigiDesign M-Box sound controller. Connected to the computer is a Kurzweil sound module, an S-VHS video deck, a cassette tape deck, patch bay, DAT recorder, mixer and a MIDI Time Piece II MIDI interface. Explore the images below for a detailed explanation of the equipment. Note that the Kurzweil keyboard has been replaced with an equivalent Kurzweil sound module and an additional keyboard.
