David Hosley has been director of the University at Albany Jazz Ensemble for the past twenty-five years and has also given trumpet lessons at UAlbany. Mr. Hosley recently retired from teaching instrumental music in the East Greenbush Central School District after thirty years.
He received his Bachelor of Music from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and his Master of Science in Music Education from The College of Saint Rose in Albany. Mr. Hosley is a member of the International Trumpet Guild, New York State School Music Association, and NAfME: The National Association for Music Education.
Mr. Hosley has performed with the Joey Thomas Band and the Dyanne Marlowe Big Band of the Northeast on trumpet and piano and has been a studio musician for Spectrum Studios in Lanesboro, MA. He received an award from the BET Jazz Channel for jazz instrumental performance with the Joe Finn Quartet. The video of this performance is viewable on You Tube: https://youtu.be/Enmwo3xHURo. Mr. Hosley has appeared as a guest conductor for the Rensselaer County High School Jazz Ensemble. He continues to perform on a regular basis with his own band, The Session Brothers, Dominant Five Brass Quintet, and the Adirondack Jazz Project, a big band he co-directs.
