Brett Wery

Brett WeryBrett Wery is director of the University at Albany Orchestra and also a professor at Schenectady County Community College, where he was recently awarded the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is also a past recipient of the SCCC Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching. He conducts the SCCC Wind Ensemble and instructs in Woodwind Applied Studies, Chamber Music, Music Theory, and Conducting.

Mr. Wery has recently been named Principal Conductor of the Capital Region Wind Ensemble. Mr Wery is the former Conductor of the Saratoga Springs Youth Orchestra Wind Ensemble. He performs regularly with the Empire Jazz Orchestra and has performed with Albany, Catskill, Berkshire, Schenectady, Utica, and Vermont Symphonies and the St. Cecilia Chamber Orchestra. He records with the Empire Jazz Orchestra, the Albany Symphony, and the Dogs of Desire. His American musical theatre experience includes numerous national tours including Annie and 42nd Street, performances as a member of the Westchester Broadway Theatre Orchestra, and performances with Rosemary Clooney, Tommy Tune, and Mitzi Gaynor.

Mr. Wery received his M.A. from the University of Denver and his B.M. from the North Carolina School of the Arts. Principal teachers include Robert Listokin and Charles Neidich on clarinet, Arthur Bouton and Steven Mauk on saxophone, and F. Joseph Docksey and Vincent LaGuardia in conducting.
