About the Department
MUSICAL PERFORMANCE (LESSONS AND ENSEMBLES)
The Music Department offers individualized instruction and an array of ensembles, from Orchestra and Band, to Chorale, Chamber Ensembles, Chamber Singers, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble, as well as courses in conducting. Or come join the Pep Band and cheer on our own UAlbany Great Danes!
MUSIC COMPOSITION, MUSICOLOGY, AND THEORY
The Music Department offers coursework in the rhythmic, harmonic, melodic, and structural aspects of Western music, its notation and composition. Composition courses address a broad spectrum of approaches and genres, among them notated instrumental music, song writing, and Electronic Music. Courses are also available in the music of various world cultures.
