About the Department
MUSICAL PERFORMANCE (LESSONS AND ENSEMBLES)
The Music Department offers individualized instruction and an array of ensembles, from Orchestra and Band, to Chorale, Chamber Ensembles, Chamber Singers, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble, as well as courses in conducting. Or come join the Pep Band and cheer on our own UAlbany Great Danes!
MUSIC COMPOSITION, MUSICOLOGY, AND THEORY
The Music Department offers coursework in the rhythmic, harmonic, melodic, and structural aspects of Western music, its notation and composition. Courses are also available in the music of various world cultures including American Music, Music of the Jewish People, and Music and Society in Latin America.
The Electronic Music and Media Program offers opportunities for students to learn the history and theory of this field and to engage in creative work in composition, studio recording, live performance, and multimedia sound art.
