JUDITH LINHARES / JAMES SIENA
July 12-September 30, 2007
curated by Geoffrey Young, poet, critic and
founder of Geoffrey Young
Gallery, Great Barrington, Massachusetts.
Judith Linhares luminous oil paintings and works on paper have inspired a
generation of younger figurative painters. The wit and intelligence of her
narrative style and chromatic immediacy entertain and dazzle with poetic
risk.
James Siena's never-before shown Pockets of Wheat drawings, made in 1996, are his only large-scale works
to date, each measuring five feet high. Inspired by a range of disparate
sources patterns, algorithms, puzzle-like geometries this leading proponent
of abstraction creates works that confound and celebrate the logic
of conventional picture-making.
