New Lighting at University Art Museum

The Museum will be closed from November 12 for the renovation of its exhibition and office lighting systems. This project is part of a campus-wide initiative of energy efficient upgrades which will reduce energy costs, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and improve interior and exterior illumination. The upgrades to the museum are estimated to save approximately 50,000 kilowatt-hours in electricity per year, a 17% reduction in the museum’s annual lighting energy usage. The new system will provide more precise controls, accurate color temperature and color rendering, critical to the preservation of artwork and the viewing experience in a museum environment.  We look forward to welcoming visitors back with the exhibition The Ties That Bind: Artists and Archives, which will open on Tuesday, February 10, 2015.
