Beyond Confines, features paintings, ceramics, and prints
by three noted UAlbany alumni artists: Serdar Arat ’84,
Wendy Ide Williams ’86, and Sandra Wimer ’90.
Arat’s powerful abstract paintings
reference the polarities between the Turkish culture of
his birth and the American culture he has assimilated since
arriving in this country over twenty years ago. Williams’
vivid and fanciful paintings and functional ceramics are
rendered in a whimsical manner that upon further investigation,
reveal darker passages contained within a highly inventive
and personal visual vocabulary. Wimer combines traditional
and digital printmaking techniques to create enigmatic sky
images that evoke memories of the expansive vistas she encountered
growing up in the plains states.
