The Regional

The 2012 Artists of the Mohawk Hudson Region Juried Exhibition will be held June 28 through September 8 at the University Art Museum, University at Albany. This annual exhibition is collaboratively sponsored by the University Art Museum, the Albany Institute of History & Art, and The Hyde Collection, Glens Falls.


The exhibition is open to artists residing within a 100-mile radius of Albany and Glens Falls. Works in all media that have been completed in the past 3 years are eligible. Works must be available for this exhibition. Works previously exhibited in Mohawk Hudson Regionals are not eligible.


Nato Thompson is a curator at the New York-based public arts institution Creative Time. Since January 2007, Nato has organized major projects for Creative Time such as Democracy in America: The National Campaign (2008); Paul Chan’s acclaimed Waiting for Godot in New Orleans (2007); and Mike Nelson’s A Psychic Vacuum. Previously, he was curator at MASS MoCA, North Adams, Massachusetts, where he organized numerous large-scale exhibitions, among them The Interventionists: Art in the Social Sphere (2004), a survey of political art of the 1990’s. He recently curated the exhibition Experimental Geography for Independent Curators International. His writings have appeared in numerous publications including BookForum, Art Journal, tema celeste, Parkett, and Cabinet. The College Art Association awarded him for distinguished writing in 2004.

On-line Submission Procedure

Artists should submit 5 representative images of work created in the last 3 years in jpg format, brief artist statement (maximum 250 words), a resume, and entry fee.

Digital images:

  1. must be in jpg format only.
  2. have a maximum of 2 mb jpg image size.
  3. please label your digital images as follows: artist last name; artist first initial; number (i.e. 1-5); and title (or abbreviated title). Be sure that your images are numbered in the same order as entered on the submission form.

    After entering your personal information and attaching your images, click “Upload Submission”. A payment form for the entry fee will follow. If you need assistance call the museum at 518-442-4035.

Video artists may submit one CD containing up to 3 works (or excerpts) totaling no more than 10 minutes in length. Be sure that your videos are numbered in the same order as entered on the submission form. Please label and test your CD before submitting. (Note that CDs will not be returned, but will be recycled through the UAlbany Office of Sustainability.)


Installation artists will be required to submit detailed proposals and drawings, keeping in mind the museum’s space limitations (door widths, wall heights, etc.) and bear all installation costs. Call the museum to discuss limitations before submission of written proposals.

Entry Fee

A non-refundable entry fee of $25.00 will be charged to assist with exhibition costs. Please pay on-line or make checks payable to The University at Albany Foundation.

Entries Due

Entries must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, March 21, 2012 or received at the University Art Museum by 4:00 pm Friday, March 23, 2012.

Delivery of Work

Artists will be expected to deliver their artwork to the University Art Museum on Wednesday, May 23 (10am - 4pm) or Thursday, May 24 (10am – 7pm). Artwork must be suitably framed or mounted (no exposed glass edges) with hanging wire securely attached to the frame. The University Art Museum reserves the right not to accept any artwork in fragile or unstable condition and to improve upon hanging devices if necessary.

Juror Selection

Notifications of works selected will be e-mailed by Friday, April 27, 2012. The decisions of the juror are final.


A Reception and Awards Ceremony will be hosted at the University Art Museum on June 28th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Awards Ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Purchase Awards

One or more purchases are made by the University Art Museum, the Albany Institute of History & Art, and The Hyde Collection for their museums’ collections.

Juror’s Awards

Cash and gift awards totaling over $4,000 will be presented. Recipients will be selected by the juror.

Invitational Exhibition

An invitational exhibition will be drawn from 2012 Artists of the Mohawk Hudson Region and presented at the Albany Center Gallery.


An illustrated catalogue with an essay by the juror will be published by the University Art Museum and will be available during the exhibition.


Submission of images for judging constitutes an agreement by the artist to the conditions of this prospectus. It is understood that entering the Regional indicates that the University Art Museum is authorized to photograph, and/or reproduce in any media any accepted work for purposes, including, but not limited to, catalogue, website, educational, publicity, and marketing for this exhibition only. All work selected for this exhibition will be insured by the UAM for the duration of the exhibition. All reasonable care will be exercised in the handling of the works received. The UAM will not act as agent for work offered for sale nor will a commission be taken in the event of sale.

Removal of Work

Removal dates for exhibited works are: Wednesday, September 12 and Thursday, September 13, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
