Focusing on selected sites located on State Street, as well as on the city’s changing architecture, the exhibit will highlight the growth from Fort (1676) and fur-trading post to Dutch and Colonial Settlement to Mercantile Center and Hudson River Commerce to its present status as the Capital City of one of the most important states in America. It was decided at the first meeting of the committee that the title of the exhibit will be Heart of the City: Four Centuries of the Architecture of State Street, Albany, New York, 1695 to Present. The purpose of the January 4 meeting is to decide on the themes and layout of the exhibit. Those on the committee who would like to participate in this discussion are warmly encouraged to attend the meeting. The discussion at the first meeting on December 7 was far-ranging and productive; by developing further and formalizing the ideas put forth then we should be able to complete our task, which is to give our report to Marijo Dougherty by mid-January. The Earth Sciences Building is at the northeastern end of the podium at the University at Albany; it is adjacent to the Fine Arts building where the committee met on December 7.
