CITIES IN CHINA
THE NEXT GENERATION OF URBAN RESEARCH

June 14-15th, 2002

Alumni House

The Urban China Research Network (UCRN) located at the University at Albany hosted"Cities in China: The Next Generation of Urban Research" on June 14 and 15, 2002. The conference featured the research of recipients of the first three rounds of the Urban China Research Network's small grant program from 2000 until 2001.

In order to foster academic exchange and mentoring, the UCRN called the conference to provide the small grant recipients, all of whom are either graduate students or junior faculty, with the opportunity to discuss their work with senior scholars in their fields. To this end, each paper was discussed by the UCRN international advisory board member with a research specialty closest to that of the grantee. Papers had been grouped into panels focusing on urban-rural migration, urban reform, urban inequality, urban neighborhoods and community organizations, and urban transformations.
