Phillip Fluhr was a third-generation German born in New York City in 1892. In 1900, he was eight-years old and living with his retired grandfather at his 165th St. home in the Bronx. In 1920, 28 year-old Phillip and his wife Anna, born in New York to Irish immigrant parents, were renting a house at 1034 Freeman St. in the Bronx, an ethnically diverse neighborhood that was predominately Russian and Jewish.
