In 1900, Joseph Baldwin was nine-years old and living
with his parents and three siblings in a rented farmhouse in East
Goshen, Pennsylvania. Joseph’s
father Harry was a farmer, and all his children attended school. Joseph’s father was born in Pennsylvania; his mother
in Delaware. Also living with the family were four boarders, three
of whom were farm laborers, and one who was a servant. In 1920, 28-year old Joseph moved to New York City
and was living in a boarding house along with a family of three
and 13 other boarders at 30 West 92nd St. in Manhattan. Joseph was working as a stock and bond salesman,
an excellent paying job. Though married
at the time, his wife was not living at this residence.
