THE
CAMPAIGN FOR THE UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY UAlbany announced the most ambitious
fund-raising campaign in the history of the state university system April 26
-- $500 million over the next five years. The announcement came at a gala kickoff
party attended by more than 400 alumni, faculty and friends of the University.
"We intend to rank among the nation's 30 top public research universities
by the end of this decade," President Karen Hitchcock told the audience.
The Campaign offers individuals, businesses and foundations a range of opportunities
to partner with us as we continue to advance in service to society. This critical
private investment will provide new or renovated facilities appropriate to the
21st century, as well as critically needed new endowment for faculty chairs
and professorships, endowed scholarships and fellowships, and academic programs.

CRIME AND CULTURE: DRESSED TO KILL? Drop dead gorgeous? From the sartorial elegance of James Bond in black tie to the streetwise styles of young urban males, clothing speaks. How these messages are interpreted by a beautiful "Bond girl" or by a real-life cop on the beat is crucial to the interaction that follows. On May 21, Professor Frankie Bailey of the School of Criminal Justice will present a lecture at the New York State Museum that will take a serious, sometimes humorous look at clothes, crime and impression management.
