D.C.-area alumni are invited to the annual All-SUNY reception held at the Rayburn House Office Building on April 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m. President Kermit L. UAlbany Earns “Difficult Dialogues Initiative” Grant from Ford Foundation
The Ford Foundation has selected the University from among 675 original applicants in a national competition to promote pluralism and academic freedom on campus and to create a campus environment where "sensitive subjects can be discussed in a spirit of open scholarly inquiry, intellectual rigor and with respect for different viewpoints."

FBI Event in Campus Center Ballroom.UAlbany Business Students Market the FBI
Thirty-three business students taking UAlbany's senior-level Integrated Marketing Communications course were given a rare opportunity to put their education to work in the real world. Over a 15-week period, they researched, implemented and evaluated an on-campus integrated marketing communications campaign for their client, the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Full story >>

Center for Human Services Research Evaluates Healthy Families New York
UAlbany’s Center for Human Services Research, along with the Office of Children and Family Services, evaluated Healthy Families New York (HFNY) through a randomized trial. HFNY was subsequently designated a "Proven Program" by the RAND Promising Practices Network, indicating the program has demonstrated effectiveness using extremely rigorous scientific standards. HFNY is a community-based prevention program providing intensive home visitation services to children at risk for abuse and neglect.

SSW Faculty Member Receives HIV Prevention Grant
Assistant professor Robert L. Miller will participate as a Fellow in the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. This three-year award includes a $25,000 NIMH pilot grant to fund the study "Spiritual Agency as a Framework for HIV Prevention in Black Gay Men." The data from this study will support an R01 application for HIV prevention.

Alumnus is Executive-in-Residence for School of Business
The School of Business welcomes Bob Lazar ’77 as its new Executive-in-Residence. Lazar will improve the school’s profile in the Capital Region and forge links with business, a job tailor-made for a man who has developed extensive contacts in Albany. Lazar recently retired as president and CEO of the New York Business Development Corp. after 34 years with the company. He earned a master’s in accounting from UAlbany.

Architecture at Albany Spring 2006Year-Long Project to Explore University’s Architecture
UAlbany and other area organizations will explore and celebrate a year of architecture at the University's architecturally significant campus and at sites throughout the historic Capital Region during the spring and fall semesters of 2006. Full story >>

UAlbany and Albany Law School Announce Ground-Breaking Program in Financial Market Regulation
President Kermit L. Hall and Thomas Guernsey, dean of the Albany Law School, have announced the creation of a program in Financial Market Regulation, the first of its kind in the United States. This interdisciplinary program of coursework, special seminars, mentoring and internships will prepare undergraduate and graduate students for careers in regulation and supervision of the financial markets. The program, created through the leadership of Rockefeller College, will begin accepting students for the fall semester of 2006, with the first internships beginning the summer of 2007. Great Danes Grab NCAA Tourney BerthUAlbany Basketball Wins America East Championship
Jamar Wilson scored 29 points in leading UAlbany to its first-ever America East Conference championship and NCAA Division I tournament berth in an 80-67 victory over Vermont before a capacity crowd of 4,538 fans March 11 at the Recreation and Convocation Center. UAlbany will meet Connecticut, one of four teams to receive No. 1 seeds, in the 2006 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament's first round March 17 at 7:25 p.m. at Philadelphia's Wachovia Center.
