Alum's Donation Sponsors All-Weather Lacrosse Field
John R. Fallon, Jr., B.A.’77, M.P.A.’81 is contributing $250,000 to help finance a new all-weather lacrosse field for the men’s and women’s teams. A top partner at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene and MacRae, LLP in New York City, Fallon says his aim is to further bolster the success of UAlbany’s men’s lacrosse team, which earned an NCAA tournament berth for the second straight year this past spring. Campaign Update
The Bold.Vision. Campaign total has reached $282 million including a recent UAlbany Fund gift of $32,250 from the members of the Rockefeller College Advisory Board. The goal of the campaign – the University’s most ambitious capital campaign ever – is to raise $500 million in private support by June 30, 2008.
It's a Date!
The University will introduce a university-wide web calendar next month. The service will include one comprehensive events calendar as well as subcalendars for special areas, such as athletics, alumni events, etc. The calendar will replace the current alumni events calendar found on the alumni web site. You will be able to access the new calendar from the University homepage and alumni homepage.
UAlbany's Middle Earth Peer Assistance Program Expands National Work in Substance Abuse Prevention
UAlbany’s Counseling Center's Middle Earth Peer Assistance Program will expand its prevention initiatives advancing the development of technical materials for colleges and universities throughout the United States, thanks to a $10,000 gift from the Dominion Foundation. Full Story >>

UAlbany has named Peter A. Vellis, D.O. as director of the University Health Center after a national search. Vellis comes to UAlbany from Seton Health in Clifton Park, N.Y. Full Story >>

Professor Gummer Mourned
School of Social Welfare Professor Emeritus Burt Gummer, 66, a nationally recognized scholar on social welfare administration, passed away June 30. Gummer retired in 2002 after 25 years of dedicated service as a faculty member. Full Story >>
School of Social Welfare Hosts Korean Students
The School of Social Welfare hosted 12 graduate students from the Social Welfare program at Hallym University in Seoul, Korea, for two weeks in July. The students visited 20 social services agencies in the capital region and attended educational sessions at the school led by SSW faculty and staff. Professor Nam Soon Huh, Ph.D., who accompanied the students, received her doctorate degree from UAlbany's SSW.

Great Danes Open Against Fordham

Golfers - Mark Your Calendars
Enjoy a day of golf while raising funds for Athletic scholarships during the 2nd Annual Metro-NY Great Dane Golf Outing. The event will take place Sept. 23 at the Plandome Country Club, Plandome, N.Y. Cost: $425 for an individual golfer, $1,600 for a foursome. Homecoming '04 Features Reunion Classes
This year’s Homecoming, Oct. 8-10, will feature all the usual favorites plus reunions for the classes of 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999 and 2004. Highlights include Football vs. St. Francis, the Touchdown Tailgate, Jazz Cabaret, River Cruise, Comedy Night and class events. University Art Museum Exhibition
The University Art Museum will feature two exhibitions Sept. 28 – Nov. 14, with an opening reception Sept. 28. “First Happiness,” features an eclectic range of drawings by eight contemporary artists whose current art practice is directly inspired by experiences from their own childhood and adolescence. “Selected Works from the Pierogi Flatfiles” includes selections from this globe-trotting treasure trove of works on paper, along with work by UAlbany alumni artists. Friends of the Library Sponsors Fall Events
The Friends of the Library is sponsoring a trip to the FDR Estate, Library and Eleanor Roosevelt’s Vall-Kill Sept. 18. Also in September are Sidney Perkowitz speaking on his book, “Digital People: From Bionic Humans to Androids” and Paul Grondahl, author of “I Rose Like a Rocket,” a biography of Teddy Roosevelt.
