Alumni Survey The Office of Planned Giving recently mailed a confidential survey to 50,000 graduates. Approximately 1,000 surveys already have been returned. In addition to receiving updated alumni data, we have also received word of several bequest intentions that will benefit our students in the future, and we are responding to requests for information regarding making other types of gifts. If you received a survey and have not already done so, please return it as soon as it has been completed.

Karen R. Hitchcock New Frontiers Fund Announced The Karen R. Hitchcock New Frontiers Fund is being developed by the friends and colleagues of Dr. Hitchcock, UAlbany’s 16th president. Initiatives For Women, which launched the fund drive, will administer the endowment as a living tribute, with the goal of providing scholarships to doctoral-level women students at the University who show great promise of making a positive, transformational difference in our society. UAlbany Graduate Programs Rank Among the Nation’s Best U.S.News & World Report's annual graduate rankings have placed UAlbany graduate programs among the best in the nation. Four of UAlbany’s graduate programs ranked in the top 10 in the country, including the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy (#10) and the following concentrations in Rockefeller College: Information Management & Technology (#4), Public Administration & Management (# 6) and Public Finance (#9) The School of Education ranked 36th in the nation and the 19th ranked School of Social Welfare remained one of the top schools in the country. NIH Awards Grant to Cancer Genomics Center UAlbany’s Center for Functional Genomics researchers Richard Cunningham and Qishan Lin have received a $463,696 grant from the National Institutes of Health for the purchase of specialized equipment used to study the characteristics of proteins. Proteomics, or the study of proteins, is an important and relatively new field of inquiry in biomedical research. Details.

U.S. Department of Transportation Adopts New UAlbany Economic Index The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) released its first Transportation Services Index (TSI), a new output index developed by UAlbany Economics Professor Kajal Lahiri with assistance from researcher Wenxiong Yao that the government will use to gauge the industry in relation to the economy. NSF Awards Grant for Researching Underrepresentation of Women/Minorities in Mathematics Programs Mathematics Education Assistant Professor Abbe Herzig has received a $635,000 National Science Foundation grant to conduct a study aimed at helping graduate mathematics programs recruit, retain and graduate a more diverse student body. New Logo Unveiled UAlbany's Department of Athletics unveiled its new athletic logo March 24 at the Great Danes Spring Sports Luncheon. The department's primary mark is now more closely aligned with the University's identity.

Five Quad Volunteer Ambulance Service Celebrates 30th Anniversary On May 1, Five Quad will celebrate 30 years of service on campus. Saturday evening features a dinner and program, with founder Barry Bashkoff ’72, at the Crowne Plaza Albany. Other weekend activities include an informal social on Friday, an open house on Saturday and Sunday, and tours of the new ambulance. For more information visit our web site or call (518) 437-4493. Alumni Party to Follow Men's Lacrosse Game vs. Syracuse UAlbany Men's Lacrosse team will square off against the nationally-ranked Syracuse Orangemen April 24. Center for Autism to Hold Benefit UAlbany’s Center for Autism and Related Disabilities will hold a cruise to benefit the Center on May 21, 7-10:30 p.m. The evening will include a boat cruise on the Mohican in Lake George, buffet style dining, live music and a silent auction.
