Calling all student writers and poets
UAlbany students hoping for careers in a creative writing field will have an occasion to explore those opportunities, interact with professional poets and writers and challenge their writing talents in a new conference co-sponsored by UAlbany’s Writing Center, the Department of English and other local colleges. “Words Without Walls” will take place on Saturday, March 6th from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Humanities building on campus.
This all-day conference will feature intensive workshops in many genres including poetry, fiction, screenwriting, song lyrics and self-publishing/book arts. There will also be panel discussions about multi-media and creative writing, presentations and discussion about slam and performance poetry and information on building literary communities. Students will have many informal opportunities for networking with creative writing professionals.
UAlbany’s Poetry Slam team of Spread the Word will perform during an open mic. The team holds monthly mic events and competes regionally in Poetry Slam competitions.
