Personal Safety Alert

A female reported to University Police that she was physically assaulted in the area of Collins Circle pay lot on the evening of January 24, 2003. There was no sexual assault and no robbery involved in this incident. The victim was treated and released from St. Peter�s Hospital. The attack was unprovoked and the victim did not see the person who hit her. If anyone witnessed or has any information regarding this attack, please call UPD at 442-3131.

As part of the University Police Department�s on-going crime prevention effort, I ask students who are out at night to adhere to the following safety precautions:

  • Travel in groups
     
  • If you absolutely must walk alone campus, call Don�t Walk Alone at 442-5511. If Don�t Walk Alone is not staffed at that time, call UPD at 442-3131 to accompany you
     
  • Be aware of your surroundings; know where the nearest emergency blue light phone is located
     
  • Avoid isolated areas
     
  • Walk in well lighted areas
     
  • If possible, keep a cell phone handy in case of emergencies

Should you be victimized, please call 911 as soon as possible. The non-emergency number for the Albany City Police Department is 438-4000, Guilderland Police Department is 356-1501, and the University Police Department is 442-3131. The University Police Department has a Victim Assistance Liaison who stands ready to help any injured party access appropriate support resources to aid in the recovery process.
