RE: Student Safety Advisory

UAlbany was advised by the Albany Police Department that two separate strong armed robberies of two University at Albany students occurred over the past weekend.

These incidents did not occur either on campus or immediately adjacent to campus.

A male University at Albany student was the victim of a strong armed robbery by five unknown assailants. This occurred at 2:30 a.m. on Friday, November 12 on lower Central Avenue in the city of Albany. The assailants are reported to be males between 18 and 20 years in age. No weapon was displayed.

In the second incident a female University at Albany student was the victim of a robbery by three unknown female assailants. The victim was punched about the head and body. This occurred at 2:11 a.m. on Sunday, November 14 on the 400 block of Morris Street in the city of Albany. The assailants are reported to be between 17 and 18 years in age. No weapon was displayed.

The Albany Police Department is investigating both incidents. We implore you to be vigilant about your personal safety, whether on or off campus. The following precautions are a reminder of some of the things you can do to be proactive concerning your safety:

Dont walk alone after dark travel with at least one other person or in groups. Avoid isolated areas.

Carry a cell phone. In case of emergency, call 911 if you are off campus or
442-3131 for University Police.

Always be aware of your surroundings

University staff, as well as Albany Police, will be available in Alumni Quad cafeteria on Thursday night, November 18, at 8:00 p.m. to talk with you regarding additional measures you can take to insure your personal safety and to answer any questions you may have in this regard.
