Personal Safety Alert

In recent days, two students have been victimized in areas near our campus. On 9/22/05 at approximately 8:45 p.m., on Washington Avenue near Lexington Avenue, six youths approached a student and struck him with fists. There were no serious injuries reported and no weapons were used.

On 9/27/05 at 11:55 p.m. near the corner of Lake and Western Avenues, three persons approached a student, produced a knife, and robbed him of property. The student sustained injury to his neck but did not require hospitalization.

Albany City Police are investigating these crimes. University Police are continuing with increased motorized patrols in areas immediately adjacent to Alumni Quad and the Downtown Campus.

Please be mindful of your personal safety. I remind you:

Don't walk alone at night if at all possible

Keep a cell phone to call police should you encounter a problem

  Be aware of your surroundings

Avoid unlit or poorly lit areas

Be aware of places people can hide

If you are walking on a dark, quiet street with no traffic, walk in the road

Thank you.
