Personal Safety Advisory

On September 3 at approximately 2:50 a.m., a male student was hit from behind on the head and knocked down by two unknown males as he was about to enter Waterbury Hall on Alumni Quad. No weapon was displayed, but a cell phone and a gold chain were taken during the robbery and the suspects ran. The victim suffered a slight injury to his lip and declined medical attention. University Police are investigating and the Albany city police have been notified of the incident.

On September 4 at approximately 1:45 a.m., two female students were calling a cab from the area behind Paulie's Hotel on Central Avenue in the City of Albany. Three teenagers, two males and a female, approached them and forcibly took a cell phone and a pocketbook/bag. Neither student was injured in the incident and no weapon was displayed. The Albany Police are investigating this robbery.

It is critical to use good judgment and common sense concerning your safety. Please adhere to the following safety precautions, whether off-campus or on:

  Travel in groups

  Be aware of your surroundings

  Avoid isolated areas

Walk in well lighted areas; if an area is not well lit, walk in the road

If possible, keep a cell phone handy in case of emergencies

Should you be victimized, please call 911 as soon as possible

Thank you.
