UALBANY TO HOST TOKYO ELECTRON R&D FACILITY
ALBANY, N.Y. (November 21, 2002) -- Governor George E. Pataki and UAlbany President Karen R. Hitchcock were today joined by Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) President and CEO Tetsuro Terry Higashi in announcing a $300 million investment to create a research and development center at UAlbanys Center of Excellence in Nanoelectronics.
The agreement between the State, the University at Albany and TEL will create some 300 jobs and further establish the University as the regions leader in high-tech research and economic development. The news comes on the heels of Julys announcement that leading industry consortium International SEMATECH will locate a state-of-the-art computer chip R&D facility at the University. TEL, the worlds second largest manufacturer of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, is expected to occupy the 228,000-square-foot facility by spring 2003.
