T he creation of the new Art Gallery began with a trip to Genet Middle School in East Greenbush, NY by ETAP doctoral student, Sylvie Schweig in the spring of 1997.

The initial step was to ask each of Alice Sage-Pulver's fifth grade students to draw on paper their conception of THE INTERNET.

These drawings were collected and given to the Learning Technologies Laboratory (LTL) where they were photographed using a digital camera and then the image files were transferred into a computer.

In the next, rather large and detailed step, the images were manipulated using graphics programs, such as Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop, to enhance the pictures appearance. Some of the images were even made into animated GIFS.

The final stage, the task of designing the webpages, compacting the graphics and programming the Art Gallery using HTML (hyper text markup language), was completed in October 1997. You are now at the doorway to the new Art Gallery!

This Art Gallery Project is intended to introduce the forum of the World Wide Web, and it's possibilities, to the local community and to show what technology in education can offer.

The virtual gallery pages were designed so that students and teachers, parents and community members, as well as all the rest of the world who enjoys art, could easily locate specific pieces of art or browse through as though one were "walking" past an art collection. The website also allows you to view more than the small image, or thumbnail, that is first encountered in your virtual walk.

Simply click on an image you admire and a larger version of the image will appear so you can really appreciate the fine detail of these children's works.
