Eloise Brière began her teaching career at Collège St. Jeanne d’Arc in Dakar, the capital of Senegal in West Africa, after its independence from France. It was the first time African literature had been taught at this institution. She also studied with Mohamadou Kane at the University of Dakar. Since then, her expertise has expanded to include the literatures and cultures of the Francophone areas of the world. She co-authored one of the first textbooks dealing with the francophone world, Rendez-vous: La France et la Francophonie (N.Y. Random House, l982).
