About the Campaign
The Lithgow Mural Fund has been established to raise funds to restore and preserve the memorable David Lithgow murals in the Milne School library. The 1991 All School Reunion served as the catalyst for a Milne Campaign to renovate and refurnish this space. In 1995, it was rededicated and named The Dr. Theodore H. Fossieck Milne Alumni Room. The Milne School was a very special place, and this space figured centrally in the experience of its student's experience. A commitment to maintain it as a signature common meeting room for the UAlbany downtown campus is a wonderful and enduring memorial tribute to the values that were fostered at the Milne School.
In August of 2003, Lithgow's first painting, HEYWARD AND HIS FEMALE COMPANIONS, was addressed with residual funds from the Milne Campaign of the mid-1990s to renovate the room.
By the summer of 2004, the campaign had raised sufficient funds to restore a second mural.
THE MOHAWK PEOPLE, the second mural that Lithgow painted, was restored in August of 2004.
It will cost approximately $110,000 to restore the remaining 12 murals.
See "About the murals" for further information. Check the condition report for details on each of the murals to be restored.
We invite you to join us in responding to this challenge.
We are planning a three year campaign to complete the remaining 12 murals
approximately $37,000 each year.
The UAlbany Alumni Association will serve as the fiscal agent for the project and has established a dedicated Lithgow Mural account that will be used exclusively to fund the direct costs for restoration and preservation. There will be no indirect/administrative charges for this project. Gift contributions to this account will be tax-deductible.
