Student Learning Objectives Educational and Counseling Psychology

Master of Science

  • Students will demonstrate a broad knowledge of the theoretical basis of educational psychology.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the research basis of educational psychology and will have methodological competence to carry out primary statistical analyses and to evaluate the credibility of research findings.
  • Students will be able to design and carry out a small-scale research study that addresses a relevant issue in the field of educational psychology.

Master of Science, Mental Health Counseling 

  • To produce graduates who have the basic requisite counseling knowledge and skills for entry into the practice of professional counseling, including the awareness and skills necessary to think and act in a professional, ethical, and culturally sensitive manner.
  • To produce graduates who can apply research findings to practice.

Certificate of Advanced Study 

  • To prepare research scholars in educational psychology with methodological competence to make contributions to the field.

  • Students will be able to design and carry out rigorous and theoretically well-grounded empirical research that addresses important educational and developmental issues and problems.
  • Students will learn how to make significant contributions to the field through professional presentations in national and international forums and conferences, and through publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
  • Students will demonstrate effective teaching skills in higher education, or competence in other relevant professional contexts.
