My research interests focus on the areas of mental health, acculturation, gerontology, and domestic violence. My most recent completed research examines the relationship between acculturation and depression among Puerto Ricans in the mainland. Currently, I am working on three research projects in the Capital Region. The first studies the role of culture on caregiving patterns, attitudes about caregiving, expression of psychological distress, and help seeking behaviors among Latinos caring for an elderly family member. This study includes a community building component and utilizes both quantitative and qualitative research methods. The second project is designed to test the effectiveness of a Health Education Program among Latino elderly caregivers and care recipients. The third project is a study of Latinas’ health issues, including domestic violence, who are primary care patients at a health maintenance organization.
