Rachel S. Harris, Assistant-Professor of Hebrew Literature and Language
This is the homepage of Rachel S. Harris, Assistant-Professor of Hebrew Literature and Language at the University at Albany.
I joined the Judaic Studies faculty in Fall 2005 while completing my doctorate at St. Peter's College, Oxford University on "The Role of Suicide in Modern Hebrew Literature." My academic work investigates the relationship between literature and political or ideological ideas. I am currently working on two new projects, “Images of Modernism in Jewish Fiction” and on “Contemporary Literary Journals in Tel Aviv.”
Originally trained at the University of Edinburgh in Islamic Studies, Philosophy and English Literature through the MA hons general programme, I moved to London to pursue a Masters degree in Middle Eastern History and Jewish Literature. These different fields have intersected in my research to inform my inter-disciplinary approach to literature.
