Center for Jewish Studies
Message from the Director

Welcome to the Center for Jewish Studies!
My name is Arthur Brenner, and I’m honored to be the Interim Director of the Center while Prof. Barry Trachtenberg is on sabbatical during the 2012-13 academic year. We’ve been at work for several months to put together another year of educational, enlightening, and entertaining events and programs.
This year’s series follows the theme of “Wanderings: Jews on the Move,” with a number of events that feature varieties of Jewish culture and stories about migrating (or would-be migrating) Jews. The programs commence in October with a concert by Mycale, a female a capella quartet performing Jewish art and liturgical songs, and conclude in late April with a performance of a fusion of Jewish, African, and Spanish Caribbean music. Other events include talks about Leon Trotsky; Jewish immigrants in international cinema; Soviet Jewry; and our third annual Holocaust lecture, featuring Prof. Marion A. Kaplan of New York University. See our events calendar for details.
