How can I find my computer's host name?
First, figure out which Operating System you are using.
To find the Host (Computer) Name:
For Windows XP
You can perform the following tasks by using the Computer Name tab in the System Properties dialog box. To locate this tab, use one of the following methods:
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. The System Properties dialog box is displayed.

- Click Start, click Control Panel, double-click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
- In the Startup and Recovery section, click the Settings button.
- Then click on the Computer Name tab. The current computer name is displayed in the “Full computer name” field. Document this name and click cancel to close this window.
For Windows 2000 Professional
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. The System Properties dialog box is displayed.

- Click Start, click Control Panel, then double click on System.
- Then Click on the Network Identification tab.
- The current computer name is displayed in the “Full computer name” field. Document this name and click cancel to close this window.
For Windows 95, Windows 98 and Millennium
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network.
- Click On the Identification tab; document the Computer Name.
- Click Cancel to close the Network Properties dialogue box.
