Setting up PCs as DHCP clients (non-WinXP)
Step 1:
- Right-click the 'Network Neighborhood' icon on the Windows desktop
- Select 'Properties' from the drop-down menu
Step 2:
- From the window which appears, select the TCP/IP Protocol that is bound to the Ethernet card
- Click the 'Properties' button
Step 3:
- Make note of the IP address and Subnet Mask.
- On the 'IP Address' tab, check the box which says 'Obtain IP address automatically'
Step 4:
- On the ‘Gateway’ tab, make note of any gateway information.
- Highlight the ‘Installed Gateway’ and remove it.
- Click 'OK' to save and exit.
- Windows will now require a restart
CONFIGURE FOR WINDOWS XP
- Click Start and Control Panel in Windows.

- Click Network and Internet Connections.

- Click Network Connections.

- Right-click on the Ethernet icon and select Properties.

- Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) by clicking it once and select Properties.

- Make note of the IP address and subnet information.
- Select the options Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically then click OK.

- Click on Advanced.
- Make note of the Default gateway, then highlight it and click remove.
- Click OK to exit the Local Area Connection Properties window. Your new settings should take effect immediately.
