Improvements to the Campus IT Infrastructure, January 5-8, 2007

ITS is planning to make upgrades and improvements to the University network and data center infrastructure on January 5 to January 8, 2007.  Work will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5.  All affected services will be restored by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, January 8. The work being performed will improve cooling and space efficiency in the data center, increase the network speed to enterprise servers, and improve management of the core router, which is the piece of equipment which connects the campus to the Internet.

The services that will be affected for the duration of the January 5 to January 8 interval include MyUAlbany and IAS (PeopleSoft, including Pell and Parking Management), All Funds, Brio, DARSWEB and DARS Transfer Articulation, Resource 25, ITS Password Set and Reset, and Applicant Status Check.  In addition, the Windows file server home directories and departmental shares will be inaccessible.

The core router upgrade will take place from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, January 6.  During this time interval, services that depend on the University network will be unavailable.  In addition, long distance phone services will be unavailable from Empire Commons, Indian Quad, Management Services Center, University Administration Building, the Boor Sculpture Studio and University Hall.

It is important for ITS to schedule time for necessary upgrades, improvements and maintenance. After consulting with many offices, we have selected these dates to minimize inconvenience. We appreciate your willingness to help us improve IT services to the campus community. If you have questions or concerns, please direct them to the ITS Helpdesk (ihelp@albany.edu) or 442-3700.
