Spam Filtering Webmail for Faculty/Staff [APP Details]
What You Need A UNIX WebMail account (or Pine, POP or IMAP mail from your UNIX account) provided by ITS. (However, you may be using UAmail for which spam filtering is also available. If this is the case, see the details for UAmail).
What You Get An elimination or reduction in the number of unwanted advertising messages (spam) in your e-mail.
What Happens Next Note that email that receives a spam score over 20, indicating it is most certainly spam, is automatically deleted by the University email system without your taking any further action. To further reduce spam, you need to set up spam filtering for your e-mail account. There are two ways to set it up: Server-Side and Client-side. ITS recommends setting up Server-side rules.
How it Works ITS spam filtering uses a wide variety of local and network tests to identify possible spam messages arriving at the UA mail server. Each email message sent to you is run through a multitude of tests, resulting in it being given a "spam score/level." The tests performed make it harder for spammers to identify ways to craft their messages to work around our filters.
