Summary: Users of Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP SP2 have in some cases reported system stability issues following the installation of the December 2007 Security Bulletin package on their computers. The symptom most commonly reported by these users is an unexpected crash/hang of Internet Explorer when the users attempt to visit various web sites. The problem has been researched by Microsoft and is reported to be related to security bulletin MS07-069. MS07-069 was part of the December 2007 suite of security bulletins. A fix for this issue is available for download from the vendor.
Recommended Actions: Windows System Administrators/users who have experienced stability problems with IE6 following the installation of MS07-069 are encouraged to read the security blog entry and (if appropriate) install the automated update 'fix' file at their earliest convenience (links provided below).
ITS Actions: ITS Systems Management and Operations Staff will apply all necessary patches to the appropriate ITS servers as part of the next scheduled system update.
