Accessing the S Drive from Home With Windows
To access the S drive from home, you must use ftp (file transfer protocol) software.
For Windows systems, ITS recommends that you use the Secure Shell for Telnet and FTP software provided on our download page at: http://www.albany.edu/its/css_glance_software_licenses_available_for_download.htm
Once you have installed the program, click on Start -> Programs -> SSH Secure Shell -> Secure File Transfer Client. You will be presented with a screen:

Click on "Quick Connect" to generate a login screen:

To connect to the University's UNIX cluster, enter itsunix.albany.edu for Host Name.
Enter your University netid for User Name.
Click Connect.
You will be prompted for your password.
You will be given an opportunity to save this connection entry (Host Name and User Name) by entering a name when you see a small box that looks like:

and click Add to Profiles.
The next time you use the software, you can click on Profiles instead of Quick Connect and select "mylogin" (or whatever you called your profile).
Your computer's files are listed in the window on the left side and your UNIX files are listed in the window on the right side. Transfer files by dragging them from one window to the other.
